Luther Edward Powell was born on August 29,1923 in Harlan County,Ky to Alberry and Emmy Powell. As a
child his family moved away to Beaulah Heights,Ky. This is where he later met then married his wife
Lois Maxine Taylor on April 4,1952. Luther and Lois had seven children together, six daughters and
one son. One of his daughters Linda proceeded him in death at the young age of fourteen months. In
1943 he was a member of the 3C camp. This was where most men who were not enlisted in the military
went,it was basically like a community national guard where they took care of community disasters
such as fires, floods ,or storms. They also worked with the road and bridge departments. Luther also
worked in the coal mines and logging throughout his life. Luther enjoyed farming crops, and animals.
He also really enjoyed guns and knives. He and the other older men of the community would gather on
the county court house steps to trade on guns and knives, to widdle, or just to tell jokes. Luther
was a prankster, He loved a great laugh.
Even though 22 years have passed we still love and miss you every day.
